Fresh Start Projects

Below are some of the projects that Fresh Start have funded with donations and products purchased from Fresh Start. All projects are in Africa at this time.

Our hope is to move into Mexico with new businesses to support and expand. We will need your generous help to do that.

Some Fresh Start projects

This is Dina. Her business started on a bench in the street and it is a measure of this woman’s success that she was able to build her own shop in which she now proudly works.

The funnel you see just behind her left shoulder is used to decant cooking oil. Oil is purchased in 5-liter containers and then Dina sells it in individual vials.

The green packs at the back are soap and you can see a couple of coca-cola bottles just below them.

Body lotion and candles are popular items. The highest margin items are candies.

Our partner Joy To The World gave this woman a Singer sewing machine. At the time of the photograph, she was still learning how to use it but she was already making beautiful clothes.

One of the most profitable businesses we visited was a cell phone recharging service.

The owner has a large car battery which she pays about 50¢ to recharge. Through a transformer and multiple charging adaptors, she is able to earn almost $14 from recharging cellphones before she has to recharge the battery.

The business is located in her home.

This is a restaurant.

The menu includes chicken, Nsima, goat meat and vegetables. Patrons sit on the floor.

Customers primarily chose which restaurant they visited because of their relationship with their owner.

At the time the photo was taken, the owner in the foreground was still on the waiting list for a loan. If she is successful, she plans to move her restaurant to larger premises in which she would be able to set up tables and chairs.
